From: Better Care, Better Children…

Regulus Educational Academy was founded by R. Jerriann Baker.  She observed that quality day care was lacking within Trinidad and Tobago and decided to introduce parents to a better standard of child care service that would accommodate their busy lifestyles. At Preschool we pursue learning achievements that are appropriate for young children and that provide the foundation for successful future learning experiences as Regulus would have it. Learning expectations are given for six areas of learning – Personal and Social Development, Language, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Health and Physical Activity, and The Arts . Programs based on the learning expectations have taken into consideration the widest possible range of children’s life experiences and situations. At Daycare and Preschool we believe that better care fosters better children.

To: Balanced Education for Better Minds…

Our Primary School is a continuance of the education program to the end of having a well-rounded world citizen. A student that views education as exciting and is not afraid to ask questions, discover and explore. A student who has the attention of the teacher because of the small class size, with curriculum delivered to them using technology to bring alive topics such as language, math and science.

We strive to establish partnerships with parents who want their children to be appreciative of diversity. We deploy the curriculum of the Ministry of Education of Trinidad and Tobago, and prepare our students for the SEA examination. Our classes will always be small and personal, and applications will be accepted by invitations only. Through Modern Teaching Methods, Character Building, 21st Century Skills Development and Project Based Learning approaches we believe we can provide your child with a balanced education for better minds.

Better Care, Better Children…

Building on the foundation laid at our Daycare, Regulus Preschool continues our vision of “Better Care, Better Children” by providing a seamless transition to more formalized, structured learning and development for your child.

Our Daycare and Preschool work hand-in-hand so your child can continue their learning and development while still mastering social and personal autonomy.

At Preschool we pursue learning achievements that are appropriate for young children and that provide the foundation for successful future learning experiences as Regulus would have it.

Learning expectations are given for six areas of learning – Personal and Social Development, Language, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Health and Physical Activity, and The Arts. Programs based on the learning expectations have taken into consideration the widest possible range of children’s life experiences and situations. We encourage diversity and integration in the classroom.

At Daycare and Preschool we believe that better care fosters better children.

Regulus Child Care Services was founded by R. Jerriann Baker fondly called "Auntie Jerri". She observed that quality day care was lacking within Trinidad and Tobago and decided to introduce parents to a better standard of child care service that would accommodate their busy lifestyles.

Regulus’s methodology is simple; to provide nurture, comfort and peace, using techniques that foster development for babies. This involves ensuring that babies are not in a disruptive or disturbing environment, so they are not prone to anxiety or emotional distress. This is done in a non rigorous, non institutionalized and fun home environment. Some of the Regulus methods for childhood development include, classical music appreciation, toys that develop social skills as well as daily communication methods with parents, child and caregiver for additional comfort and growth.

Any member of staff who works with Regulus is asked the following question: “Would you do this job for free?” This helps us recruit staff members who are not simply motivated by money, but by the joy of working with, and caring for, little ones. Caring for children’s needs often requires that you act above and beyond the call of duty, and no amount of financial compensation can substitute.

While studying at Drexel University, Philadelphia PA, Auntie Jerri had the profound privilege of being a full time nanny for three years. She has over 10 years of experience of working with children of varied ages, ethnicities and cultures. She has conducted lectures and counseling sessions with parents in Trinidad and Tobago and the United States; and, she has worked with pre-mature babies (preemies),  and toddlers with mild ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Regulus’s mission is simple: “To raise the standard of childcare in Trinidad and Tobago”.

Our units will always be small and personal, and applications will be accepted by invitation only.

The learning expectations outlined in this document represent the first steps in a continuum of programming from Preschool/Kindergarten through Primary/Elementary school. They describe learning achievements that are appropriate for young children and that provide the foundation for successful future learning experiences as Regulus would have it.

Learning expectations are given for six areas of learning – Personal and Social Development, Language, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Health and Physical Activity, and The Arts. Programs based on the learning expectations have taken into consideration the widest possible range of children’s life experiences and situations.

Regulus Education Academy days are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM – 1.5 hours longer, with Early and After Care Programmes available.

More School Terms :
Regulus Education Academy opens for four (4) school terms with a 4-5 day break between them.

No Lessons Required:
Everything needed for Academic Success will be covered in class. Homework will be given for practice to re-enforce and strengthen concepts.

5 Learning Dimensions:
At Regulus we strive to develop a well balance curriculum across our learning dimension of Academic, Character, Life & Social Skills, Sports & Fitness and Music & Drama.

21st Century Skills Development:
The 21st century skills are a set of abilities that students need to develop in order to succeed in the information age. They include Learning Skills (Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Collaborating and Communication), Literacy Skills (Information Literacy, Medial Literacy and Technology Literacy) and Life Skills (Flexibility, Initiative, Social Skills, Productivity and Leadership).

Teaching and Building Character Strengths:
Of the 24 Character strengths identified in the Values in Action Inventory Regulus will focus on Teaching and Building those (Grit, Optimism, Self-Control, Gratitude, Social intelligence, Curiosity and Zest) that are most relevant to your child’s learning and development.

Modern Teaching Methods:
The traditional “chalk and talk” method of teaching that’s persisted for hundreds of years is now acquiring inferior results when compared with the more modern and revolutionary teaching methods that are available for use in schools today. Greater student interaction is encouraged, the boundaries of authority are being broken down, and a focus on enjoyment over grades is emphasized.

Regulus Childcare Services has the same expectations of all the parents who choose to partner with us in the development and education of their children. This has prompted us to put forth the following guidelines to assist in the smooth operation of the school as well as the smooth transition for the children.

  1. Pre-school times 9:00am – 2:30pm daily. We will accept children one hour earlier or later than those times for no additional cost. If however your child has extended care at daycare then this does not apply.
  2. Fees: one time registration fees are $500. Potty trained child, 9:00am – 2:30pm $1000/monthly. Extended care/not potty trained, 6:30am -5:30pm $1200/monthly.
  3. Parents are expected to escort their children into the reception area of the school and see them in and say goodbye in this area.
  4. They are expected to be in school uniform with all the necessary tools that we have asked you to provide for their learning.
  5. You can expect a calendar sheet on a monthly basis that will help us communicate any major events that would be taking place during that particular month.
  6. We will maintain a smaller size communication journal that will be used to send notes to families periodically. Parents are expected to initial any notes that are sent in the journal to indicate to us that you have read it.
  7. Gymnastics will take place at the school, Wednesdays from 12:45pm to 1:45pm $100/month.
  8. Games uniform of white t-shirt and shorts are to be worn on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  9. Parents are expected to pack lunch, snack, water and juice for their children so that they can easily feed themselves whatever is in their lunch boxes.
  10. Students are not expected to bring candy, corn curls, cheese balls, chewing gum or soda onto the compound for the purpose of consumption. We will be encouraging parents to help their children make healthy choices and thus consume healthier snacks. Eg, fruit, crackers, nuts, vegetable chips.
  11. There will be zero tolerance for fighting, hitting or biting other students. Parents will be asked to meet with the teacher to discuss how we can work together to discourage this behavior. Abuse of staff by parents will result in immediate dismissal.
  12. We will be introducing the children to ASL (American Sign Language) as part of their daily curriculum.
